Join the “Know Your Numbers” Team for Heart Walk Benefit Sept 23

know-your-numbers-webCORRECTION: The Sonoma County Heart Walk is on September 23, not September 22 as previously reported.

The Heart Walk is the annual fundraiser for the American Heart Association taking place September 23 at Howarth Park in Santa Rosa. It has become a tradition for the Black Oaks Soccer over the past five years in memory of Matt Sokol, who died of a heart attack during a game in 2012. Read more of this post

No Headers for Age 11 and Under

NorCal Premier Soccer, the league in which Black Oaks Youth Soccer competes, has implemented a no-heading rule for players age 11 and under, following guidelines set forth by US Soccer and US Club Soccer. The move is intended to reduce concussions.  A study estimated 50,000 high school soccer players suffered concussions in 2010.

According to a New York Times article, the announcement resolved a legal case that began in August 2014, when a group of parents and players filed a class-action lawsuit in United States District Court in California charging FIFA, U.S. Soccer and the American Youth Soccer Organization with negligence in treating and monitoring head injuries. The suit targeted the Laws of the Game, which govern the sport internationally, as well as several American organizations. Read more of this post

Annual General Meeting January 16

Santa Rosa Black Oaks Youth Soccer Club - Annual Meeting Members

2015 Annual General Meeting

Dear Members:

UPDATE: Due to Rain, we are moving the Meeting indoors to the meeting room At Home Nursing, 1403 Corporate Center Pkwy. ~ Alex Campbell, 707-217-3089

It’s time to have our second annual general meeting as a soccer club, 11 AM Saturday, January 16, at  Jennings Park, Santa Rosa (weather permitting); if it looks like rain, we are able to meet at the facilities for At-Home Nursing, located at  where we have held our coaching courses in the past.

The meeting will be about an hour long. Members and the public are invited.  According to our by-laws, members are any player and/or their legal guardian, coaches, board members and officers. Only members are allowed to vote at the meeting.

There are a lot of changes this year with our club, including the changes being enacted by US Soccer and US Club Soccer to change the birth-year age registration as well as smaller sided games.  We are taking this opportunity to organize our players by skill level and will hold an evaluation training for coaches and players in late January.

We are excited about the growth of the Black Oaks, but with it comes a need for more management and one of the changes to our By-Laws I will propose would be the expansion of our board of directors from 5 to 7 members.

We will also be holding elections for board members.  Those interested in becoming board members are asked to attend the annual general meeting. During the meeting there will be an opportunity to propose your addition to the ballot.

Please RSVP on Facebook

Thanks to each and every one of you have helped support the Black Oaks in the past year.  Any questions, feel free to email me using or via phone at 707-217-3089

Spring League 2015 has Arrived [PHOTOS]

spring league photos of youth soccer

April 11, 2015 was our first big home stand for the Black Oaks Youth Soccer Club at Jennings Park in Santa Rosa.  This is a slideshow from three of the games: U10 Boys Thunder, U11 Lady Oaks, and U15 Boys Black Oaks.  I was so proud to see our club grow and our players improving their skills against some tough competition; if it were only possible to get photos of all the players and teams?! Volunteer photographers are always welcome.  If you see a photo you like and want a higher resolution image, email me at (Right-click and copy the link or save the image.)  Congratulations to all of our players, parents, coaches and managers for putting on an excellent display of soccer, sportsmanship and community.  Also, thanks to our board members and volunteers for getting the club ready for spring.  Finally, thanks to Carmen, Veronica, Rosa and Black Oaks Thunder for the great food concessions.  It was a great time, watching soccer and eating good food.  Good luck with the rest of the season!
